Stand Up For A Good Cause!
For the second year in a row, Enable Payroll attended Contact a Family’s Comedy Store Event. For those of you who aren’t aware, Contact a Family has been awarded our Charity of the Year for the second year running. At Enable we feel that the work they do it second to none. They provide support and guidance to hundreds of thousands of people nationwide. It is the only UK-wide charity providing advice, information and support to parents of all disabled children – no matter what their disability or health condition. They also enable parents to get in contact with other families, both on a local and national basis.
Gemma Turner who works in the Fundraising Department at Contact a Family has worked very closely with us over the past year to keep us up to date on all up and coming events that we may wish to take part in. The Comedy Event is just one of many we have contributed to over the past 12 months.
When we arrived at the Comedy Store it was jam-packed with people ready to enjoy themselves. We invited a number of our council members to come along and join in the fun with us. Tracy Chilton from Ealing Direct was there with her friend Julie, and Manuela and Mulvina from Southwark Council also came to show their support.
The buzz inside was electric and that was before the comedians had started. Having been to the show last year, I knew to expect a huge crowd, but this year it seemed to have surpassed last year’s attendance. Once the host for the evening, Arthur Smith, pounced onto the stage, we all knew we were in for a good night. Each comedian brought something new to laugh about and had us all hopping in our seats. All those around us seemed to really be enjoying themselves. The most memorable seemed to be Paul Sinha who is a Bengali Londoner, public school-educated GP. He managed to get the crowd wailing in laughter with also a few heckles thrown in.
The whole night was a raging success, and next year’s event will definitely not be missed.
