
As a domestic employer you have a legal and statutory requirement to make sure you have Employer's Liability Insurance in place. Whilst most household policies cover domestic employees, carers are not automatically included and covered by all Insurers.

Ellis Bates has arranged a liability policy specifically for Service Users employing carers; including those under a Direct Payments or Individual Budget arrangement. As well as £10,000,000 Employers Liability cover, the policy includes Public Liability cover for £5,000,000. The insurance premium for Service Users Liability for Direct payments is £70 per year.
A second policy is also available covering liability for carers and personal assistants who need public liability and who might employ respite support. Public liability for £5,000,000 and Employers Liability £10,000,000 is included, complying with the usual minimum levels of cover required by local authorities. The insurance premium for Carers and Personal Assistants Liability is £140 per year.
You can also buy cover for £7,500 Personal Belongings including goods on loan from NHS, PCT’s or Local Authorities. This cover is often needed for those people who may not live in a home of their own and who may only have the need to insure a smaller value of goods as a result. The insurance premium for Personal Belongings Cover is £75 per year.
